Alexander Harris have been appointed to all three specialist legal panels of the Disability Rights Commission ("DRC") in relation to Employment, Civil Litigation and Education. Douglas Silas, Head of our Education & Public Law department is nationally acclaimed as an expert on disability discrimination having acted personally in a number of matters, including some high profile cases such as R v A Juror which concerned the refusal to allow Jeff McWhinney, the Chief Executive of the British Deaf Association to sit as a juror after which he was named "Lawyer of the Week" by The Times. We have also undertaken training on the DDA for a number of organisations including the Law Society, the Arts Council of England and a number of other well known disability organisations. We have been responsible for training the Disability Conciliation Service and have been recently asked to address the DRC's own Legal Officers, Caseworkers and the Social & Policy Team in relation to Healthcare and Social issues. The DRC are keen to align themselves with firms such as ours whose ethos is to litigate in order to bring about changes within society.
