Asbestosis is a serious long term lung disease caused by the inhalation of asbestos fibres over a prolonged period.

These fibres then become lodged in the lung and the lung tissue becomes thickened and scarred which gradually affects the ease of breathing.

Asbestosis tends to appear 20 years or more after exposure to asbestos. The main symptoms of asbestosis include breathlessness, coughing and a feeling of tightness in the chest. Although sometimes asbestosis provides no symptoms or very little disability.
