The 2nd May 2006 marked another very exciting chapter of Alexander Harris' history when they merged with leading law firm Irwin Mitchell to create the largest personal injury practice in the UK.
Irwin Mitchell incorporating Alexander Harris was established.
A brief history;-
Alexander Harris was founded in May 1989 employing just two lawyers, two secretaries, a legal executive and a bookkeeper. By the time the firm merged with Irwin Mitchell there were more than 150 staff, and offices in Altrincham, Cheshire; Central London; and Solihull, West Midlands.
Alexander Harris had achieved notable legal victories including the oldest medical negligence case to be heard in Britain. The client was awarded £1.25 million 33 years after the incident at a hospital which led to brain damage when he was only 1 month old. Another landmark saw Alexander Harris in 1998 become the first to break the £3 million barrier for compensation in a medical negligence claim. After celebrating their 15th year anniversary, the firm went on to represent Natallie Evans in the famed 'frozen embroyo' litigation, the parents of Baby MB in a unique legal challenge to prevent a treating NHS Trust withdrawing life sustaining treatment and the two most seriously ill Northwick Park drug trial victims.
Alexander Harris' work benefited medicine as well as individual clients. Anaesthesia for mothers in need of caesarean sections improved because of shortcomings highlighted by the firm's work and several of cases highlighted the growing crisis in the NHS and the urgent need for improvements.
This website is Alexander Harris' casebook and provides an insight into contemporary legal issues demonstrating the firm's commitment to clients pursuing each case with the utmost vigour and candour.
