Emma Gaudern, specialist solicitor in Wills, Trusts and Probate at Alexander Harris Solicitors spoke today on the Radio 4 You and Yours programme.
Emma spoke of concern over Will tracing agencies targeting the recently bereaved. Relatives have felt pressured to sign up to agencies who want to charge a considerable amount of money; often up to a third of the Will's value. She said she had been approached by someone with a contract from a Will tracing agency, who wanted a third of the fee of the Will. She said "These agencies are targeting people who are in a very vulnerable position." She pointed to two cases in Ireland where the contracts had been held to be invalid. Her advice to people in a similar position is not to panic, and to bear in mind that the contract is unlikely to be enforceable.
