Solicitor Muiris Lyons spoke today on CNN about legal issues surrounding the case of Terri Schiavo.

Terri is currently the centre of a legal battle in the US between her parents, Mr and Mrs Schindler, and her husband, Michael Schiavo who is fighting to let her die naturally with the removal of her feeding tube. Doctors estimate that Terri will die within 2-3 weeks if her feeding tube is not re-instated.

Today a US court rejected her parents' appeal to order doctors to resume feeding her. Terri has been in a vegetative state since 1990. Doctors removed Terri's feeding tube on Friday.

Her case may now be heard in the Supreme Court.

Muiris Lyons, an expert in Public Law, spoke about the case and outlined the legal stance in the UK applying to such a case.

Speaking on CNN, Muiris Lyons said:

"In cases like this, where there is disagreement between family and doctors, the final decision as to what is in the patient's best interests should rest with the court. When politicians interfere with the judicial process for political reasons judgement can become clouded. It is essential that the patient's best interest remain paramount."
