Following legal and professional advice, the Healthcare Commission will regulate independent dentists who provide listed services, as described in the Private and Voluntary Healthcare Regulations (England) 2001.
Listed services include class 3b, except where such treatment is carried out by or under of the supervision of a healthcare professional, class 4 lasers and intense pulsed light sources.
Unregistered dentists who currently provide these services are being urged to make application for registration to the Healthcare Commission without delay.
It is now an offence to carry on or manage an establishment that provides registerable services without being registered. (Care Standards Act 2000). Dentists who flout this law can be prosecuted.
