Lucy came to see specialist probate solicitor Emma Gaudern just after her mum died. Her mum had very few assets and had left them all to Lucy. Whilst Lucy did not need to pay a solicitor to deal with the whole estate, Emma suggested that she could obtain a Grant of Probate on Lucy's behalf. This is the document that Lucy needed in order to close down her mother's bank accounts and sell her house. This would save Lucy filling in all the legal forms to do this and also from taking time off work to have an interview at the Probate Registry. Emma and Lucy agreed a fixed fee as to how much she would charge, so that the costs did not get out of hand.

As soon as the Grant was obtained, Emma gave it to Lucy who went ahead and dealt with the rest of her mother's estate on her own.
