Evan Green was just three when he fell ill at play-school. He became very hot, pale and floppy. He also began to have slight hallucinations.
His mum, Rachel took Evan to hospital, where he developed a headache, and began to be sick. He also had a high temperature.
Within an hour a purple rash had developed all over his body. It began with a purple spot on his face, three spots on his chest, and within a further twelve minutes the rash had spread to cover his entire body.
Evan had meningitis, and had to have three of his limbs amputated. His family had to wait several weeks until he was well enough to undergo this life-saving surgery.
Evan and his mum Rachel spoke on GMTV this morning about Evan's ordeal. Rachel believes that more could have been done earlier by the hospital to detect meningitis, and limit the damage to Evan's limbs.
