Manual handling injury compensation

Our client was not provided with proper manual handling equipment, when employed at a marble cutting works. As he transported pieces of marble he had to push the pieces of marble from a lower level up on to the cutting bed. This resulted in a disc protrusion whilst carrying out this task, which required surgery.

The claimant received £20,000 in compensation, and was able to return to work

Injury compensation from faulty work equipment

An out of court settlement of over £47,000 was awarded when a faulty seat in a HGV caused injury to an individual whilst he was driving on a rough road.

A worker received psychological injury, severe burns, lacerations and a fracture to their right foot, due to an electrocution at work. It led to an out of court settlement of over £80,000. In this case maintenance work was carried out before the employer checked to ensure all electrical equipment was isolated.

Injury compensation for fall at work

A 40 year old Roofer was installing a new water drainage pipe, when he suffered an injury whilst in Doncaster at a development site for a large office.

Whilst working from a ladder the hooks on the ladder broke off and he felt them twist beneath him as. He sustained a badly broken right ankle after falling approximately 8 metres which resulted in serious complications, and a great deal of pain. After numerous visits to hospital, he had to have his lower right leg amputated.

The claimant recovered damages for loss of earnings, the suffering and pain he endured as well as the provision of his prosthetic limb.

Compensation for workplace trip and slip injury

A worker was sound boarding at the back of a large cinema screen. The area behind the screen was covered by a scaffolding walkway with limited lighting. There were a number of gaps in the scaffold walkway, and some were approximately 1 foot wide. The claimant stumbled as his foot went into one of the smaller gaps whilst carrying a piece of board along the walkway, and twisted his knee whilst falling, causing permanent injury. Damages were recovered in respect to related financial losses including loss of earnings as well as the injury itself.

Poor safety equipment

A conveyor belt with numerous paddles with sharp edges, needed replacing and the claimant was employed to assist. The paddles had to be removed in order to replace the belt. The task could only be completed manually and the claimant was not warned of the paddles' sharp edges, nor was he offered protective gloves. The claimant developed reflex sympathetic dystrophy after suffering a deep cut to one of his fingers which subsequently became infected. After losing many months of income, and the change to his future earning capacity, he was awarded £33,500.
