The Legal Services Commission (LSC) has extended the deadline for those wishing to register their interest in pursuing a claim on behalf of their child who they allege has been affected by the MMR or MR.

The deadline was extended until 4pm on Monday 28th February 2005 by order of Mr Justice Keith.

20/10/04 - MMR/MR - Some Legal Aid Appeals Successful

The Legal Services Commission Funding Review Committee sat in London for 3 days on 1st, 6th and 7th October 2004. It was the same Committee who had refused to reinstate public funding (legal aid) on 30th September 2003 for Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD) cases alleged to have been caused by MMR/MR.

This time they heard some 36 appeals against withdrawal of public funding brought by parents whose children were affected by either MMR or MR.

In relation to the children suffering ASD or IBD (or both) the appeals were all refused.

In relation to 11 of the 36 suffering with serious conditions other than ASD or IBD, their appeals were granted. The FRC approved further work on behalf of those 11 children to investigate whether they might have claims for compensation that can be taken forward. Their conditions included:-

The LSC has invited us to contact any other clients in this non ASD non IBD category in case they also want to apply to the Commission to have their child's public funding reinstated.

The LSC will then look at the facts of each case with a view to deciding if they will allow specific investigations to be made into each child's condition.

The deadline for those wishing to register their interest in pursuing a claim on behalf of their child as listed above has now been extended til 4pm on Monday 28 February 2005.
