3 year old cousins, Harry and Jenny were on a family holiday in Spain with their families when they became ill with salmonella.
The families spent the first few days of their holiday in and around the hotel, its restaurants and its pool. As a result they ate only food that had been prepared by the hotel. After a few days the family had become so disgusted by the general cleanliness of the hotel that they complained to travel representatives and hotel management that their accommodation and food was of a sub-standard quality.
On the fourth day of their inclusive package holiday Harry and Jenny became ill. They developed symptoms including a high temperature, fever, sweating, continual diarrhoea and loss of appetite. Both Harry and Jenny screamed and cried with pain. Visits to a local chemist failed to alleviate their symptoms. On their return to the UK, they visited their GP who immediately diagnosed salmonella poisoning.
The children had become so ill that they continued to suffer symptoms for many months after and sustained concerning weight loss. Many other families had made complaints about the hotel. It was believed by the families at the time that the tour representatives had filled out two complaints books in one week. Alexander Harris settled a number of claims against the tour operator including Harry and Jenny's.
