Claire was thrilled when her employer invited her to Finland for a winter sports activity weekend. The weekend included winter sporting activities including a snowmobile trek across frozen lakes.
On the second day of the weekend, Claire went on the trek across frozen lakes. However shortly into the trek her
snowmobile overturned and she injured her neck and spine. Claire believed that the short period of tuition she received prior was inadequate for the conditions on the trek and instructed her local solicitor to proceed with a claim for compensation.
Unfortunately, her solicitor did not realise that because the activity weekend was organised by a UK company, a claim could be brought in the UK Courts under the Package Travel Regulations. Claire's solicitor advised her inappropriately and was unable to obtain compensation for her injuries.
Alexander Harris' specialist Foreign Claims Team are now pursuing the original solicitor for a professional negligence claim. The team are seeking compensation for Claire arguing that the previous solicitor's negligent advice lost her the right to claim damages from the tour organisers in the UK.
