ROTHERHAM FACTORY WORKER RECEIVES £4,500.00 FOLLOWING BLOW TO HEAD

A Rotherham man has received £4,500.00 in an out-of-court settlement from his former employers after developing psychological injuries as a result of a head injury sustained whilst at work at Uniq Prepared Foods based in Hellaby Industrial Estate, Rotherham.

Injured while working

Wayne Bennett, 41, of Maltby sustained the injury whilst working in the packing department with his colleague refilling glue pots. He was leaning into a container to reach the glue when his colleague lowered the heavy metal framed perspex lid hitting Mr Bennett hard on the top of head knocking him to the ground.

Mr Bennett said "I was in immediate pain whilst I was on the floor and I was helped to a step. Someone brought me some paper towels and I held these to my head, but there was so much blood it was coming through the paper towels and dripping on to the floor."

Mr Bennett attended Hospital where his wound was glued and he was sent home with advice regarding head injuries. Although the wound itself healed he developed diagnosed psychological problems.

Personal Injury Expert

His payout was secured with the help from Lynne Parker, of personal injury experts Irwin Mitchell, based at the firm's Riverside offices in Sheffield.

Commenting on the pay out, Miss Parker said "thankfully Mr Bennett has had the resilience to fight the symptoms he has experienced and secure employment. Companies are vicariously liable for the actions of their staff and must ensure that staff are well trained and capable of doing the task they are employed to do as human error can have significant consequences".
