Developed the asbestos-related lung cancer mesothelioma
An inquest has ruled that CARPENTER David Baddeley died as a result of industrial disease.
Mr Baddeley, worked throughout the Cotswolds area and developed the asbestos-related lung cancer mesothelioma, the inquest heard.
The 70-year-old father-of-two, died at Cheltenham General Hospital on June 26.
Mr Baddeley's wife of almost 43 years, Emily, said in a statement that he had worked as a carpenter for J H Osborne's builders and also self-employed.
Cut asbestos with power saw
"He used to cut asbestos with a power saw, hammer it and cut it to assist him with working on roofs and walls," she said.
Regular contact with asbestos
Another work colleague William Young, had worked as a builder with Mr Baddeley, said they regularly came into contact with asbestos.
"He would use it, work with it and handle it frequently," said Mr Young. "We were not aware of the dangers then and we took no precautions."
Death due to mesothelioma
Pathologist Dr Jeremy Uff, who carried out a post mortem examination, said he found that death was due to mesothelioma.
Tests showed a very high level of 391,514 fibres of asbestos per gram of dry lung tissue.
